Amy Carmichael

PRONI will hold an event on the afternoon of March 8 to mark International Women's Day.

From Ireland to India - Women of Change will see presentations exploring how three very different Irish women each boldly contributed to change in India.

Janet Hancock, Deputy Head of Public Services (PRONI) will highlight records from the archive relating to missionary Amy Carmichael and Lady Hariot Dufferin, whose Countess of Dufferin Fund supported improvements to medical care for women in India.

Malachi O’Doherty, a Freelance Writer and Broadcaster, will talk about the life and work of Margaret Noble. Born into a Methodist family in Dungannon in 1867, Margaret Noble became a revolutionary nationalist in India.

Iain Webster, Director/Owner at Network Media Television will talk about the making of the BBC Northern Ireland Groundbreakers documentary looking at the life and work of the Irish missionary, Amy Carmichael.

Admission to the event is free, but booking is essential. Please contact PRONI to secure a place: E: proni@communities-ni.gov.uk or T: 028 9053 4800
