1916 themed exhibition opens in Derry~Londonderry
19 February 2016

Derry's Void Gallery will launch a new 1916 themed exhibition this February by German artist Anne Wenzel.
The 'Night Falls, Day Breaks' exhibition has a critical and thematic resonance with cultural and civic activities due will take place this year in Northern Ireland and in the Republic of Ireland - specifically around the centenaries of the Easter Rising and Battle of the Somme.
Using historical and commemorative iconography as a departure point, Wenzel explores themes of contemporary catastrophe and political history through the traditional medium of clay. The artist creates monumental ceramic sculptures and installations that occupy a rebellious position between tradition and modernity.
The exhibition will open at Void Gallery in Derry on February 20 with a curator talk from 6.30pm followed by the opening of the exhibition from 7.30pm.
