CCEA launch 'Understanding 1916' site for teachers and students
CCEA (Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment) have unveiled a new thematic unit for Key Stage 3 around some of the main resources available.
'Understanding 1916' has been developed in partnership with the Nerve Centre and acts as a hub for some of the key learning aids and information sites related to the main events of 1916, to their causes and consequences and their ongoing legacy for us today.
It contains a wide range of learning materials, curricular guides and links to explore and considers key questions across a number of subject areas, providing opportunities to address 1916 within the Northern Ireland Curriculum, including the Cross-Curricular Skills and Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities.
This resource presents teachers and learners with the tools to ensure that the centenaries in 2016 are seized as an opportunity to learn and reflect on our past in order to inform our future, and to develop learning in a positive, inclusive and constructive environment.
Linked resources include iBooks, animations and graphic novels developed by Creative Centenaries as well as modules developed by the Nerve Centre's Teaching Divided Histories project.
